SIMS - How to set up DMP SCS VR Receiver

When a customer calls in to get a receiver set up, verification of some account details is necessary.

  • Verify the serial number or account number for the account to properly document what was done on the account and to make sure the account has the correct Maintenance agreement in place to assist accordingly.
  • Advise the customer they will not be receiving signals for several minutes. They may have a backup receiver to use, but they must be aware of the loss of incoming signals.
  • Identify if the connection will be serial or IP for the receiver.

From the Sims Receiver menu, go to Configure>Port Setup

Port setup will display Port Configuration, we are adding a receiver so you will have to click on Add. This will display receiver selection, scs vr receiver is a DMP receiver.

This receiver will be set up to communicate via IP. The customer will have to provide the IP address and port number. The customer decides through what IP and what port communication happens. When the receiver is chosen from the drop-down, there will be some text boxes that populate with checkmarks. These are standard settings and can be updated according to the customer's preferences.

Notes to consider:

  • Companies with firewalls have rules that allow certain traffic to enter and exit its network. The administrator is going to have to allow this receiver pass communication through Inbound/Outbound rules. (see below)
  • Test the receiver before completing contact with the customer. There is a signal called HEARTBEAT that is continuous in receivers showing functionality.
